Finally found some time to update this damn thing. I tried putting a video together for you all but I found that I took waaay too few clips that they're not even worth stringing together. They were mostly of scenes from the freeway while driving anyway. Not exactly enthralling documentary. I'm thinking of putting a Tokyo one together though so you can get a taste of wandering the city? Might be fun.
So, yeah. Back in Tokyo. Firstly, I have to apologize to people I didn't get to see or talk to. My schedule was packed and staying out in Bowmanville hampered efforts to see the outside world during the downtimes. I managed to get my license renewed and my teeth cleaned and fixed which were two of my major must-do's while out there. It's been 4 years since I last went to the dentist... I didn't have cavities or anything but I was told to go at least once a year for upkeep. My front tooth was chipped a bit so I got that fixed up and a molar was also cracked so got that sealed up too. I didn't realize the molar entailed a needle so I had to let out an annoying groan before relenting to the freeze. I hate needles, btw.
So, the first thing I did was check out the Fan Expo for half a day. It's the largest comic convention in Toronto (and Canada?) so it was nice to see familiar faces and new work by friends and aquaintances. I was surprised at how, uh, big the show was? They had a huge video game section that took up about 1/4 of the show floor that included a stage with accompanying huge screen and rows of desktops hooked up with what looked like Halo 2 or 3. I dunno. I've never played that game. The show also has a horror and sci-fi element to it so I saw a few tv personalities like Brent Spiner (Data) and the original Buffy chick. She was hot from afar. I'm not sure upclose. Had a beer and poutine with C.B. and called it a day at about 8ish. It takes almost 2 hours to get home by public transit so I wasn't about to be a hero and push limits. Did I mention my parents live out in nowhereville?
The next day was my sister's wedding. Had a good time. Met the in-laws, ate lots of chinese food and got drunk off all the wine. They had no beer so I consciously took it easy with the red and white but, hey, I wasn't driving. My sister and her man were merciful so there were very few pre-wedding and inwedding speeches, activities, what-have-yous and things grooved straight to the food. Yay.
While back I also had my obligatory fill of Canadianese junk food. Tim Horton's pretty much every day, a big fat burger from Harvey's twice, Pizza Pizza, a real Montreal poutine and lots and lots of beer. I'll talk more about that in my next post. I need to work now...
